My Right to Have Rights

My urge to discuss this topic arose from my own experiences, where someone I know joked inappropriately with me and commented sleazily at another person in my presence. On informing them about my discomfort, I was informed that they were simply joking, that I don’t have a sense of humour, they didn’t mean any offence and it's their right to speak their mind at the least. On countering them, a few of them also reminded me that they are not responsible for what I’m thinking and feeling! After these enlightening opinions, they continued with these regressive gestures. The Lok Sabha Elections were going on in India until 1st June. Everyone used their ‘Right to Vote’ to choose the new government. The results have been recently announced and the new government has been formed. New policies will be made and new ideas will be implemented for the Country’s development and growth. I want to address a different side to ‘Rights’ during this time, though it will seem like a cliche. From time ...

The Work Life and The Balance

I often read articles and posts on social media talking about Work-Life Balance and Toxic Workplaces. Some articles point at employers and company leaderships for the lack of a balance between the professional and personal lives of its employees. Whereas some others reiterate what employees should be doing to bring-in and maintain this balance in our lives. Forbes magazine quite transparently interprets work-life balance as “equal time or priority to personal and professional activities” . While reading this article I asked myself in introspect : Is the current working generation capable of detaching their personal and professional lives to maintain a work-life balance? Does talking about the walk, ease walking the work-life balance talk as well? Does talking about it enough help bring in the balance out of an imbalance? We discuss “Work-Life Balance” to raise awareness . But is there truly a solution to this predicament? We mostly expect workplaces to have provisions where Work-Life...

LOVE... Is of all Kinds...

LOVE. I have always felt the power of this word, strong enough to linger in the air all day. Everyday. Thinking about that person gives us the flutter in our stomachs, that warm feeling in our hearts, a smile on our faces, a shine in our eyes, a bounce in our walks. It makes the day seem all the more bright... Love is an everlasting charming season , following its own course. It is that immortal song we want to hum, all the time. It gives us a reason to wake up in the morning, looking forward to unfolding the day. That rush we feel when we get a glimpse of the one we love or when we hear their voice. That elation we feel when we know they are around us, or catch them glancing our way, trying to catch our eye. We cherish the moments we spend with them and desire to have more time to create many such memories to last a lifetime. Doesn’t all this sound familiar? To me, it sounds like the befitting description of our ‘Love for our Partner’. Let’s be honest we all have felt something like t...

Pages from World's COVID Diaries

“Every day the clock resets. Your wins don't matter. Your failures don't matter. Don't stress on what was, fight for what could be.” - Sean Higgins March 2023 would mark three years of the COVID onset in India and the country-wide lockdown. Even though the signs were already visible as early as January 2020, the first official lockdown was announced and had commenced in the last week of March the same year. Initially it was to be for 21 days only. But soon the paradigm shifted swiftly, changing the well versed accustomed social norms followed around the country and the World as a whole until then. The Novel Coronavirus or COVID – as we all have come to call it quite fondly – has been, in my opinion, the most unorthodox, unbiased and undiscriminating mass assassin since the 1980s. It not only challenged the manslaughtering might of the HIV/AIDS and Swine Flu pandemics, but it also established itself as the subtle winner. Until it was too late, we never realized that we def...

Can God be More Supreme than GOD? - Part 2

In continuation to : Can God be More Supreme than GOD? - Part 1 Based on the knowledge inscribed in the Religious texts around the World, Religion has been enunciated as the foundation of an action based virtuous ethical life. The next logical question arises, then how did it get monopolised, politicised and segregated into the version we see around the world today? Here are some logical fact-checks: Since our religious books articulate ‘the Word of God’, it is meant for the greater good of all species and so should be made accessible to everyone. All religious books around the World are written in different languages. All languages consist of words. All words in all languages have synonyms. Each synonym of each word has its own meaning too. So to have God’s wisdom shared with the rest of the society in an easily relatable manner, these ancient texts were bestowed upon a certain group of people in every civilisation with the responsibility to study and learn the book’s ancient langua...

Can God be More Supreme than GOD? - Part 1

One of the definitions of the name ‘God’ as mentioned in Merriam-Webster dictionary states -  “a spirit or being that has great power, strength, knowledge, etc., and that can affect Nature and the lives of people : one of various spirits or beings worshipped in some religions.” In reality, God is all of these qualities and more. Religion established God to be a formless, faceless and shapeless entity. That He always appeared to a human being only in a Human form or ‘Avatars’ [Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 4 , Verses 5-9] so that His virtues and wisdom may become easily relatable and comprehensible for the mortals. In fact Qur’an [ Chapter 2 , Verse 87] states that Religion has been passed on to the common people through God’s Messengers and Messiahs throughout the World. So, considering that no human being has ever seen God in His true form [ Bhagavad Gita - 9:11 , Exodus - 33:19–23 and Qur’an - 28:29-31 ] so as to establish His true race, colour, gender or form, yet we see people killin...

My Fraud Ordeal

18th February 2021 proved catastrophic for me. I fell prey to a phishing attack and lost close to Rs.63,000 of my hard earned savings which would have been 3 months of breather for my family. I’m sharing my experience in the hope that You do not fall into similar traps.  I have been out of work since June 2020 and have been actively looking for one. I was approached by someone for a job opportunity claiming to be a recruiter of a well known Indian employment website - Naukri.com. The recruiter told me all the right things and asked all the right questions - told me that the call is from the company’s Mumbai branch, asked if I was still looking for a job, told me that they had found my job profile on Naukri’s website, wanted to know the kind of roles I’m looking for, that they found my profile matching the opportunities available at my preferred locations, that if I was okay with it they will set up interviews for me starting upcoming Monday, my last drawn package and what I was exp...

The Beauties and The Brains

A few weeks back I watched a fairness cream advertisement claiming to give ‘high-definition’ fairness to its consumers. I was fairly amused to realise that all the performing actors in it were already naturally fair-skinned. I found the humour in it when I checked the meaning of ‘High-Definition', to understand its correlation to a fairness cream! Cambridge Dictionary explains ‘High Definition’ as - ‘a system for showing very clear pictures on a television or computer screen or for producing very clear sound’. Applying this meaning to the fairness cream advertisement, the product was implied to chisel out human facial features to enhance their looks and improve the vocal tones to make someone sound soothing. In addition, the advertisement’s narrative had once again quite simply underlined what it otherwise would deny - even now a woman’s beauty overshadows her brains and that her capabilities are judged and measured by her skin colour. While looking for some more context on the ad...
